Save West End

Rally in West End

Hundreds of people turned out for the rally to Save West End at the Big Lizard in Boundary Street on Saturday 17 October.

The rally was featured on Channel 7, 9 and the ABC and the message to the Brisbane City Council was loud and clear:  the people of Brisbane love West End and will fight to protect its character, creative energy and urban village atmosphere from the reckless and senseless overdevelopment proposed by the Council.

Residents are not opposed to development – in fact we welcome it – but it must be in accordance with sustainable planning principles.

What you can do to help save West End:

Brisbane City Council’s draft neighbourhood plan is a plan to wreck our neighbourhood. It will deliver an overcrowded concrete jungle and massive windfall profits at the expense of West End’s unique character.
  • An extra 25,000 residents and an extra 14,000 cars
  • No new schools, childcare centres or libraries for the extra 2000 kids
  • 5 to 15 storeys for Boundary Street and right through the heart of West End
  • 12 to 30 storeys along the Brisbane River extending the CBD into West End.

What we want:

  • Human-scale development and an urban village atmosphere;
  • The character and diversity of West End maintained – an interesting place for all of Brisbane;
  • Proper consultation with the people who live here.

Make no mistake, if this plan goes ahead it will mean the death of the West End we know and love. Once its gone we can never get it back.
